Thanks!—-I live near one of the busiest stretches of railroad in the U.S., so I spend a fair amount of time in my car waiting at railroad crossings. I was on my way home late one night, waiting for another train to pass, when I got the idea for this song. It’s pretty folksy. Hope you like it.Coal TrainCoal train rolls by into the skyIt rattles the nightRain on the street, jazz in the airKeeping time with the lightBlack car passes by, catches her eyeIt’s gone like a ghostOf all the eyes she’s looked intoShe misses his the mostThe wheels roll onOne glance and it’s goneHe dreamed of a ship, got his wings clippedWent down to the tracksHe wanders the roadLooking to lose the load on his backHe can go for miles with Miles and Coltrane’s saxophoneThe melody soothes like her voiceand he knows he’s not aloneChorusShe wonders how much he’s changedHas he let his hair grow? And does he recall all the things She wants him to know? She marks the days with flowersBut she hides them awaySomehow she doubts it’s enoughTo convince him to stayChorus© 2008 Leesha Harveyhttp://leeshaharvey.com
